Tenuta Donna Maria is an organic farm of about 180 hectares of woods and arable crops. We grow and offer our guests organic vegetables and fruits, specialising in the productions of olives, almonds, pomegranate, figs, quinces and various vegetables typical of the area. The entire structure is exclusively fuelled by a photovoltaic and solar thermal system, generating clean and sustainable energy. The farm is located at the heart of the San Giuliano natural reserve, a serene and idyllic sanctuary just a few minutes’ drive from Matera. Built in the 1950’s to provide water for farms on the Metaponto plain, it gradually transformed into a natural habitat for dozens of birds and wild animals, as well as rich and diverse vegetation spanning from native to non-native species of plants. All this has created a unique landscape in the Basilicata region, an oasis of peace and wellness just a few kilometres away from Matera, the European Capital of Culture 2019.
The newly renovated “Il Melograno” farmhouse comprises 10 rooms, each with its own bathroom, and can accommodate up to 25 people. Although the hotel has been conceived for nature and country lovers, modern facilities such as internet, hairdryer, underfloor heating and air conditioning are present in all rooms. Prices include full breakfast and free access to our SPA and other facilities. There is a disabled access room with bathroom. Breakfast is included in the price.
The restaurant “Il Rosmarino” serves the typical vegetarian and vegan cuisine, using strictly organic products from the farm, and catering the rest from nearby farms. Our main focus is on freshness, seasonality and especially on the origin and quality of the produce. Our restaurant is available to our B&B guests. External clients should book in advance, with priority to those using regularly our SPA and pool and other facilities. It is also reserved for those attending any of the activities offered at the Tenuta, such as workshops and seminars.
